African-centered early childhood day camp founded in 1980, organizing its summer program around weekly explorations of African diaspora regions including Egypt, East Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and New Orleans.
Each week campers engage in field trips, science activities, gardening, art, three-dimensional sculpting, writing, poetry, and cooking, with afternoons given to outdoor play with bikes, scooters, and sprinklers. The seven-week program runs across named age-cohort groups that carry the center's African-heritage identity throughout the school year — from toddler classes through school-age Makondes. Meals are provided through the Child and Adult Care Food Program, and the camp day spans 8:00am to 6:30pm Monday through Friday.
